1999
March 1999 saw
the release of the first ever complete album of Stiffs material, when 'Captain
Oi!' records issued the "Stiffs-the Punk Collection" on CD. The album was
a collection of the band`s singles plus many hitherto unreleased demos
and masters, covering the bands entire history.
Spurred on by
the revival of interest in the band, original members Phil Hendriks, Strang,
Tommy O`Kane and Big John McVittie staged a supposed one-off re-union concert
in the band`s hometown of Blackburn, Lancashire in July 1999. This would
be the first time all 4 original members had been in the same room
together for 12 years.
The hastily rehearsed
sellout concert was recorded for posterity by the band`s old regular studio
engineer Paul Adshead. The recording was purchased by Trojan/Receiver
records and released the following year as the "Volume Control-live"
CD album.
Summer 2000 found
the original line-up re-united once more to play the UK "Holidays in the
sun" Punkfest, which co-incided with the release of the "Volume control-live"
album.
Towards the end
of the year, negotiations took place with both EMI and Angel Air records
for the future release of 2 separate retrospective albums. It was decided
that the EMI album ,"Innocent Bystanders", would focus on the band`s early
career up to the end of 1980 ,while the Angel Air project ,"Stiffology",
would take the story from 1981 to 1988.
